I think this is overkill. Just write a web interface with its own user and password table. Users authenticate to the web interface and submit jobs to the interface. The web interface is the only thing that knows the Xgrid password, and when it gets a job, it holds it for moderation, and when the admin approves of it, it then turns around and submits the jobs to Xgrid.
I've been planning on writing something like this for, oh, about a year. But things have gotten in the way and now I don't know if I ever will be able to write it. There are some projects around that other people have started. Maybe someone else has already written it. I am not sure.

I have been thinking about possible ways to conduct this, and have come up with an idea.
How about, the 1 password for submitting jobs is changed automatically say every 6 hours. The person submitting the job has to sign in using a separate set of credentials held in a MySQL database, using say a client made in Realbasic. If this login is correct using the credentials provided, then the client runs a shell script which updates the password using one provided by the server after logging in.
This however all relys on one thing - Is it possible to change the password in a Shell Script?
Do you know if it is possible to change the password in a shell script, and perhaps how?
Thanks.

Hi There.
Thanks for that.
My project hasn't been officially approved by my teacher as of yet so
I will have to get back to you, but I appreciate all the advice given.
Thanks!

For the controller, you can only set 2 passwords:
* one for the agent (which would prevent controllers from harvesting
just any agent in a local network)
* one for the client (which will prevent unwanted people from
submitting jobs)
So, there is only 2 levels of access for clients: * no access * full access
And there is only 1 password, shared by all the clients.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant! Let me know if you need some help with the xgrid side,
