[Xgrid] non-responsive grid

I've recently installed xgrid and had great success with some smaller jobs. Today I submitted 6000 jobs to a grid of 10 computers. Things were going fine for several hours, but now I can't connect to the server via Server Admin, and an "xgrid -job list" hangs indefinitely. Anyone had this problem before? Could it be something to do with xgrid? The services (http, afp, etc) appear to be working just fine even though I can't use Server Admin or Xgrid Admin.
