>From what I know (which is admittedly not an extensive fountain of knowledge with regard to Xgrid) These credentials are used to bind the Xgrid controller to the AD Kerberos realm in order to enable Kerberos authentication. The account you use to complete this step MUST be a directory admin for your network (I bribed one of our admins to help me complete this step.) In my experience, it doesn't do anything special as far as creating account or any file shares. It is simply grating your Xgrid host permission to submit and receive Kerberos-based authentication for XGrid jobs (which require authentication.) I think I have that right but I assume other, more knowledgeable members on the list will correct me if I'm wrong. To: email@hidden Message-ID: <email@hidden> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes When I click on the "Configure Xgrid Service..." button in the Xgrid action of Server Admin, I am greeted with the "Service Configuration Assistant - Xgrid Servce: Introduction" screen. It says: "This assistant will guide you through setting up your server to host a grid or join an existing grid. Hosting a grid means that you will be setting up a controller and an agent on this server. A network filesystem will also be configured. Joining a grid means that an agent will be set up on this server and bound to an existing controller. Before this assistant proceeds your server must have access to a directory system that provides Kerberos services. Click Continue to verify that your directory settings are configured correctly." When I click the "Continue" button, I am prompted with a screen that lets me choose between "Host a grid" and "Join a grid". This all seems fairly straightforward. However, once I proceed past that step and onto the "Xgrid Service: Authentication" screen, I see the following: "Please enter a directory administrator username and password for the following directory: (in my case, /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1) If you would like to configure the network filesystem later you may leave the username and password blank." Perhaps the last sentence for that is a hint. However, I very much want to know what those credentials are used for. If I'm using Active Directory instead of Open Directory, what happens? Is the Xgrid wizard going to create accounts on my Domain Controllers? Or even setup file shares for itself? Or is it merely doing some sanity checks? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!
