You're correct, and I appreciate the ability of the AD Plugin to produce
this mapping without modifying the Windows AD schema. But the OS X Server
AD Plugin's dynamic UID/GID assignment is not accessible by the Windows AD
or the Windows SNFS client. The Version 2.6.1 Windows SNFS client
currently has no mechanism for retrieving that mapping so it can be
incorporated during SAN file operations. It's not clear that the addition
of LDAP support rumored for SNFS 2.7 will make this any easier.
Thanks,

It is rumored that the next SNFS release (2.7) will support LDAP
(Kerberos?) lookups. LDAP access is preferable to PCNFS/NIS, but there is
still the issue of where the OS X UID/GID is stored. You may still find
that your Windows AD schema must be extended to include OS X (Unix) user
attributes.
Mac OS X Tiger's AD plugin can dynamically generate UID / GID from the AD
user / group records.
