Re: 3.5 Gb XRAID and number of LUNs

------------------------------
Xsan currently has a 2 TB LUN limitation. Depending on how large the
drives are then it may call for multiple LUNs per controller.

------------------------------

This is not recommended if you do video. Stick with 2TB LUNs per
controller untill Apple finds a way to work around this 32bit issue.

I always setup my storage LUNs as 2TB RAID5 sets w/1 hot spare and leave
the seventh spot empty. If you need a 2TB SAN, get an Xserve RAID w/7
500GB drives and buy 2 extra 500GB drives. Remove 1 500GB drive from the
fully populated side and put it with the other 2 on the empty side.
You'll have a 2TB RAID5 LUN w/ hotspare for storage and a 500GB RAID1
w/hotspare for metadata.

If you need a bigger Xsan volume, do the math: typically you get 3
Xserve RAID at 14 disks for every Xserve RAID at 7 disks...
