Some Basic Xsan throughput questions

I browsed through the archives and didn't find answers to some of these questions, so sorry if these are duplicates.

I'm trying to get a hold on where the bottleknecks in terms of bandwidth. If your basic layout is going from RAID, through cabling, to a switch, through more cabling, and then to the machine, where is the bottlekneck? I'm not concerned with the Read/Write speed of the RAID at the moment.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The actual throughput on the FC controller on the XServe RAID is somewhere around 80MB/s? The throughput on the FC cabling is theoretically 200MB/s? What about a switch, say a QLogic SANbox 5200? What is the realistic throughput for that (or a similar switch, or any switch)? How about the throughput through the Apple FC card? PCI, PCI-X, PCIe versions of their card? Are these throughput numbers even important?

Sorry for the basic questions. I've got some books about this stuff on the way, but I figured I'd ask while I'm waiting.

Regards,

Aaron
