Multiple subnets on public network [repost]

[Note: I'm reposting because my initial post was accidently posted as a reply to an existing thread instead of as a new thread. Sorry about that.]

Have any of you had experience with Xsan and multiple subnets on the public network?

The Xsan Admin software appears to discover the clients and controllers by means of Bonjour, which typically is limited to the computers present on that same subnet. However, when we setup one Xsan client on a different subnet of the public network, it still showed up in Xsan Admin. The reason for this is that the Xsan client services are also advertised by Bonjour on the private metadata network, which is all one subnet.

Since this appears to work for Xsan, our only real concern is that other services besides Xsan are also advertised on the private metadata network. This could lead to unwanted and potentially harmful traffic on the private metadata network if users discover and start using services that are only visible to them through that network connection. Any suggestions on how to limit this risk are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Brian Wells
