User Creation best practices

Hello,

For the past few years all of my xsan creation work has involved manually creating all the user accounts instead of utilizing a directory system. I am about to change philosophy.
While getting my feet wet and testing things out with OD, I have found differing behaviors depending on the order and location in which I create user accounts. Is it better to create user accounts in Workgroup manager exclusively or better to create users on local systems prior to creating the OD accounts they relate to? I notice that users created in WGM have home folders created locally, yet the users do not appear on the local user login list. This leads me to expect other differing characteristics I've not encountered yet. I'm hoping someone has already developed some sense of best practices and can advise me before I start making my own mistakes.

Many Thanks,
Greg
