My understanding of how iMessage will work is that it will somehow check if
the recipient is on an iOS device. If they aren't, it will send a normal
SMS/MMS message and normal carrier charges will apply. If they are on an iOS
5 device, it will just send it over the data network so it will count just
the same as any other data. It probably works similar to the FaceTime check.
It will be a great feature since I think SMS is old, overpriced technology
that needs to die. All it does is serve to pad the carriers profits. I have
a feeling they aren't happy about it. It would be great if iMessage could
somehow work on other platforms, but I doubt it.
