I thought *my* mailboxes were overabundant and overweight - but I see now
that they've still a long ways to go... ;-)

I've never counted all my messages. I've got well over a hundred mailboxes, and many of them contain many thousands of messages.

If you're running Mac OS 7/8/9 you need to allocate more memory to the app
so that it can handle lots of large mailboxes at once; my minimum/preferred
is 6000/12000 K. I have about 20 mailboxes open, several of which are in
the 8-15 MB range.
