Hi Michelle,
One thing to try, and I suggested this to the original poster in a
separate e-mail, is to open a clean user account and try the script
there. If it works, then you might have a corrupt user preference file.
I've gotten this to work in several accounts now and am running
mail.app version 1.3.4 (v614/618).

However, I remembered that I do have a couple of mail bundles
installed: PGP, Mailenhancer, JunkMatcher and SpamCop. After a little
troubleshooting, I've identified the problem for me, and I suspect
for you as well. I would wager to bet that you have mailenhancer
installed. Go under mail preferences and turn off the option to
select signature based on account under the Mailenhancer pane. Close
the preference window and you should be able to get your script to
work.
I have the same problem he has (which is not quite the same problem
you described, but is similar), and I do not have mail enhancer
installed.
