Hi There!!
I too will be interested in seeing people's responses to your question.
Our MUG does not have its own ListServ, but it is something we have been
considering doing. I say this just to explain that I am not too familiar with
what is involved in setting up and administering one.
I am not sure whether you are saying that you are having trouble getting
members of your MUG to take the steps needed to set themselves up to receive
messagses or digests from your List, or whether you are saying that they ARE
set up to receive postings but are simply not very active in terms of
responding or sending in their own queries. My feeling about this is that, if
the first approach was to send out instructions to all members on how to set
themselves up on the List, and if that appraoch was not working very well, I
might then employ an "opting out" strategy where I would have my List Admin set
up all my MUG members so that they will begin receiving the messages but with a
boilerplate header or footer which tells them how to get themselves removed
from the List.
Perhaps a middle step might be to do a telephone survey of a sampling of your
MUG members to simply ASK them why they have not signed themselves up on the
List. Perhaps the process is not as simple as you think, or perhaps they don't
really understand the things that the List can provide. Part of that Survey
might be to assess their feelings about having your List Admin enroll them on
the List on their behalf.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
Happy Holidays to All from Canada!! Remember the Postal Code for Santa is H0H
0H0.
