I got myself a hotmail account back before they were bought by
Microsoft. Since the purchase my experience has soured.
SPAM is a main problem. I have the privacy setting set to the highest
level. That means that only people in my address book can send me email.
Still, due to the fact that Microsoft sells my email address to their
partners and gives them preferential treatment I still get 10 SPAM
emails a week. How can they bypass my settings in this way?
As a result I've stopped using it for email and just continue to use the
Passport account because some of my colleagues refuse to leave MSN for
something that reliably delivers messages and respects my privacy. After
not logging in for 30 days, they've wiped my messages that were in there.
Is it any wonder that the word Ethics was excised from the dictionary in
Word.
