I won't be at Macworld but I'd like to thank Randy et all for the list of
things to do whenever I DO get to go back to NYC.
As for ads, I for one would like to simpler ones that show people having a
great time and doing cool things on their Mac (cue AOL here). It doesn't
matter that you can do some of them on PCs-- the image you want to establish
is people really enjoying using their Mac.
Another idea is to use the framework of the switch ads but talk to people
who bought Macs as their first computers. ("I was a little nervous at first,
but the Mac was so easy to set up I was online and having fun in no time!")
I believe Apple OWNS the idea of having fun while using a computer and ought
to play that up more than it does.
If it could afford to, why not run different kinds of ads for different
markets, such as business-oriented ads on the Financial News Channel, that
sort of thing.
I also think that trying something as being the *sole* sponsor of a mega TV
event woud be worthwhile to try. For example, sponsor the TV premier of a
popular movie on a national network.
Seasonal ads ought to be broadend to include the back-to-school season, esp.
when parents are considering buying their college-bound kid a laptop. Eith
both iBook and Powerbooks to choose from, Apple can compete for that market.
