The best bet, in my opinion, might be for people to look at things
like
phpGroupWare. It is, for the most part, plug and play.

You need PHP and mySQL but it's easy to set up:

Which module are you using for a membership database? I'm implementing
our
new site for MetroMac.org on my own server space which I've donated to
the
group. (old clunky site can still be seen for now). I have almost
everything
in place - invision board for forum software and other fun features,
but I
am still in search of the "perfect" membership admin tools. The user
only
needs to see a simple registration form on the site, where we can
capture
some info from them. But I'd like the back end to be pretty powerful
as the
goal is to have it be the master database to use for mailings and
stats on
meeting attendance, dues payment and such. PHP and mySQL are not a
problem,
and are actually my preferred tools already :)
Thanks in advance for any tips.
Laurie
I use PHP and MySQL. But my choice application is Postnuke
http://www.postnuke.com and the module phpBB2
http://phpbb2pnmod.sourceforge.net/. I setup a member group and a
leader group both hidden from the public (you must subscribe to the
group in order to have access). Once approved, the member will have
access to all the member forums. You can mass email to all members, and
with MySQL you can extract the data. But why would you want to do that?
PHP, MySQL, Postnuke and phpBB2 are already keeping track of your
members. And it is all open source and free to download! I just updated
my site. It has all the elements described. Register and go through the
process and see what I mean. I still have to add my graphics, logo and
finish forum content.
