Apple maybe rethinking their financial strategy. The expense to travel
to these trade shows are astronomical. Corning Incorporated has done
the same thing by reducing the number of trade shows per year to a few.
Corning Incorporated is the number one fiber optic manufacturer in the
country and they are still struggling to stay on top in todays economy.
(I know this because I design trade show graphics, if anyone is
interested) If market share is reduced, budget cuts or layoffs will be
made. With the economy struggling, it would be a wise decision for
Apple to stay home for a year or two. I don't mind If it will save
someone's job. I'll wait until Apple has the processor technology up to
speed (new supplier?) before I go back. :-)
Another thought came to mind...
The Keynote address that Steve Jobs gave us at MWNY 2002 compares
Apple's success at their Stores to a MacWorld trade show per day (I
think). To me it's cost effective to focus on Retail Stores, continue
with its Digital Hub Strategy and increase the pressure on the Switch
campaign in the consumer market.
