Well, I read a little further into the articles. There is more than a
petulant child issue here. Apple has been affected by the downturn just
like anyone else. The question has to be asked in context. Many other
vendors are pulling the belts in, spending less money on events and
presentations. I was around producing events when this began and
watched it accelerate.
I see Apple pulling out because the overall cost outweighed the
benefits. It isn't just they do not want to play in Boston. BTW Boston
has a venue to host Macworld in one place. So that issue goes away. The
travel to San Francisco is far cheaper and cost effective. And as ramp
up, Steve can role out something once a year that wows everyone.
As to holding a Macworld without Apple, I cannot say what effect that
will have. We have been involved in many experiences without the main
player present. But I do wonder about the keynote. Since getting to
the East Coast has always been an issue for me, the issue is different,
but I just read an in depth analysis of Apple from Infoworld and it was
an interesting set of articles.
