Re: New member welcome kit<< Hi fellow User Group officers and advocates,
We are working to put together a "New Member Welcome Kit" for our new and
renewing members, and I'd like your input to help make sure we cover all the
bases and deliver a compelling product.
If you have something like this for your new members, would you mind
replying with a list of its contents?
Also, if you have a sample of a "Welcome letter from the President" I'd
appreciate seeing that also.
Thanks!

Our group doesn't have a New Member Welcome Kit, though I know other groups
do. Things I would put in such a kit would be on a CD.
1. Bylaws.
2. Contact list of experts. Some groups maintain a list of people skilled a
certain programs or skills. These people are willing to take phone calls from
members asking questions in that field. "I know you can take information from
a spread sheet and import it into a FileMaker data base. How do you do that?"
Or, "How do you share a printer on a two Mac network?"
3. Officer contact information
4. MUG calendar for the year
5. A FAQ or Hints & tricks section for common Hardware/software programs
6. Shartware/freeware applications including GraphicConverter, web browsers,
utilities, games and the like. Start this section off with an explanation of
shareware, freeware, demoware, charityware...
7. A list of local resources with phone number, address and URL.
Since a CD cost about 25", you might give them out to potential members
(people who show up to a meeting but, don't become members at their first meeting).
To people at a swap meet or other activity. Some Office Mac or Office Depot
have sales where with the mail in rebate, you can get a free spindle of 100
CD's and 100 Jewel cases at no case.
