After 19 years of mailing printed newsletters to our members, MUG ONE has
just made the move to all digital distribution. (Hooray!)
I'm wondering how other groups are handling your newsletter distribution.
Do you mail a printed newsletter, email a text newsletter, email a PDF, or
email a link to a PDF on your website? Or something different?
We produce a Printed magazine 11 times a year (every month except
Jan) and have NO PLANS to change at this stage.
Our magazine is still the only service that ALL our members can enjoy
and benefit from and we send it out to nearly 900 people each month.
We do have an archive of PDFed magazines available from our website
(
http://www.ausom.net.au/magazine.html) but this is "delayed" by 3
months and is limited to 12 months old. A CD can be purchased with a
larger archive and is updated every 6 months.
Pros and cons? Feedback from your members?
We trailed a PDF version with a couple of people who asked for a
digital version and they all said they prefer the printed version.
I still get a PDF version a week before the printed version, but I
skim that for news to include in the AUSOM-Announcement email that we
send out at the beginning of the month (see
http://www.ausom.net.au/lists.html for more details) but to actually
"read" the articles I wait for the printed version.
If you distribute via PDF, did you make changes to your newsletter's format
to make on-screen reading easier?
If we were to move solely to PDF, then yes we'd change the format.
Please post your answers to the list, so we can all learn from each others'
experiences.
