I agree with Gary's
response on this......great idea about the computer and programs that
they can access only at a meeting.

Subject: Re: Free dot Mac Account
usage
Hi
Our club owns a computer that we use for demos. It is not available for use by
the membership... except at club meetings. Members are encouraged to own their
own Mac.
This computer has some "archival" copies of software that was donated
to our club for demos, then use for fund raising. Copies are not available for
use by the membership. Members are encouraged to buy their own copies
We own a CD/DVD burner that I use to make monthly CDs to give away at meetings.
I don't loan them the device... or give them copies of the Toast software that
came with it. If they want an extra device for their computer, we'll guide them
where to buy their own.
You get where I'm going?
Right now a .Mac account is a great value for anyone. 250 megs of space for
storage and email. Free software... Great discounts... Training for members at
club sponsored events. All for $99 (that's less than 30 cents a day).
Your member has already acknowledged the VALUE of a .Mac account. They want to
use the built in training. Maybe download the "free" software, too?
I think he's being excessively frugal (cheap, even) in thinking his $20 to $30
annual club dues should entitle him to what everyone else pays for.
I'd encourage your member to be moved by this perceived VALUE of a .Mac account
and pony up the hundred bucks.
But that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Hello UG members:
I am a board member of the AppleQuerque Macintosh User Group (recent
name change from AppleQuerque Macintosh Computer Club). Our club was
able to receive a free dot Mac account earlier this year through Apple
Sales Web. I have questions about its usage. A member just requested
the password to the account so that he could access the tutorials at
the dot Mac Learning Center. The request came after a demo I gave on
dot Mac using our club account. The member felt that because the
account belonged the club, then all club members should have access to
the services. I disagreed with the member saying that I was under the
impression that it was for club use in this way: use for UG website,
file sharing and other storage, and dot Mac/iDisk/application demo
purposes.
I have also sent this to my Regional Liaison for guidance.
Thanks for your time.
