SIGs - none!
Feature Presentations / Hands-On: "follow-up topic" - So far, so good!
WatRMUG has a relatively small membership, but it seems to be growing.
When I first joined a few years back, regular meetings averaged about
12-15 people, now we average 20-30 depending on the topic du jour. The
second meeting of the month was billed as Beginner's Night and only a
handful of people would show up, mostly experienced people and
occasionally a beginner or two who needed some help. Since we changed
the format last year and called the second meeting night Hands-On:
"whatever topic", the second meeting is almost as well attended as the
regular meeting. Even during a particularly nasty snow storm last
winter, an amazing number of people risked life and limb to show up.
Help from experienced users is still there for new users and at some
point we always try to remember to ask if anyone has any questions or
problems that they need help troubleshooting. Since we meet in a small
school, there is always an empty classroom where people wanting to get
together can.
We have talked about SIGs but haven't a clue as to how to get them
going. We have suggested SIGs as an option, but no one seems to want to
take the bull by the horns to organize and run one. This year we are
planning to try to follow-up the regular meeting's feature at the
Hands-On with practice/development actvities since so many of our
members bring iBooks/Powerbooks and the school has a few iMacs that we
can use, but we're already out of sync on that since the presenter we'd
planned for the first regular meeting couldn't come until our Hands-On
meeting this week so we will have two features in September and start
October with a Hands-On follow-up to this week's presentation. We're
Mac users, we're flexible! ;-)
I guess we do have one SIG - Tim Horton's Coffee Clatch (a bunch of us
always gather at a nearby Tim Horton's ater WatRMUG meetings for a few
hours of Mac-related conversation)

SIGs - what Special Interest Groups does your group have? NCMUG has 9
of
them, ranging from New User to Developer, Switchers and Unix. What
other
SIGs do your club have? How are you making them successful? Ours are
mostly
held in our Santa Rosa CompUSA, where are yours held?
