[for what it's worth...]
Our MUG in Beijing was able to successfully use iChat AV at our April
2005 meeting. In mainland China, any connection over iChat AV
(especially video chat) is considered shaky. Even Skype sometimes gets
downright fragile -- we tried three times before establishing a
connection with a guy in the far northwest (Urumqi in the Uighur
region). We had static before we could hear the guy online.
We had a video chat connection with the guys at uMac in Dalian (which
is on the Liaodong peninsula next to Korea).
Major problems in the mainland include firewalls and an overall fragile
web connection.

Port 5060 to enable video conferencing, but the IT people are
typically unwilling to do so for fear of compromising security. Has
anybody had any luck with iChat AV connections at institutions
(colleges or corporations)?
