Dale,
I suspect it has more to do with US Government regulations, than
internal Apple decisions. "Uncle Sam" has some strange ideas about
things like this. No logical person can figure him out.

3 - Graeme Moffatt's Apple Regional Liaison Report from Oceania

Apple Regional Liaison Graeme Moffatt has filed his latest RL
Dispatch
from Oceania, the territory that includes Australia and New
Zealand. (more)
I'd like to clarify a point from Graeme Moffat's Dispatch which is
not correct:
The Apple Sales Web, ... is a valuable resource in getting such
things as Apple Keynote presentations for all of the Apple
hardware and software products along with the opportunity to gain
a free .Mac account for your group.
User Groups in Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and others) are not
eligible for a .Mac account. I went thru the process of waiting for
the activation key and progressively querying Apple Sales Web only
to be told it doesn't apply to us.

Hello Dale,
We regret to inform you that User Groups are not eligible for
free .Mac codes in the APAC region.

Global User Administration and Support
I did forward this email to Graeme so he would know about the issue.
I was really excited about .Mac when the Groups feature was
introduced and couldn't wait to set this up for our User Group.
This and the other features like iCal, iWeb, etc fit well with an
User Group.
What I don't get is why Apple restrict benefits to the US User
Groups. In the case of the .Mac accounts, the service is global so
time and cost of providing the service is incremental and bearable.
Strange.
