ecto is not free either, but I guess I thought there wasn't a
requirement that everything that we suggested had to be free.

I'm not sure anyone has mentioned that Mac OS X 10.4 Server comes
with Blojsom, a pretty good blogging system (http://www.apple.com/
server/macosx/features/collaborationservices.html). You can also
get it and install it yourself from http://wiki.blojsom.com/wiki/
display/blojsom3/About+blojsom and another alternative is http://
www.blosxom.com/
As far as client tools, did anyone mention ecto (http://ecto.kung-
foo.tv/), MarsEdit (http://ranchero.com/marsedit/), and flock
(http://www.flock.com/)?

Wordpress is really great software for blogging. The software is
Open Source and costs nothing. You can either
a) open an account online and host the site with them which would
give you the address:

b) Download the software onto your own site and host it from
wherever you want when it would have the address format:
http://www.yoursitenamegoeshere.com
Wordpress is very easy to use, has some nice themes, is constanly
being developed with new features being added all the time, and
has getting on for a million sites already using it.
I also used Blogger but didn't like it. I know many people love
Moveable Type, but Wordpress is my favourite at the moment (If
Microsoft bought it, it wouldn't be anymore).
I have tried the blog that comes with iLife 06 but it is very
limiting and inflexible.

My group is doing a presentation on Blogging next month.
I usually make up a monthly CD as a hand out to all that attend
our meetings. I would like to include some Blogging software
to help my members get into it, if they want.
Can anyone recommend some? 'Freeware' beats 'shareware' or
'commercial,' but 'better' beats them all. Remembering, of
course, that those new to it are not as sophisticated as you
wiz-kids.
