1 - We have By-Laws. It helps everyone know what their job is. It also gives us a structure to remove them from their post if they don't do their job. And it sets term limits to discourage dynasty building. They also prohibit any officer from being paid to volunteer.
2 - We charge dues. When we started, oh so many years ago, they were $15 annually, now they are set at $40 a year. It pays for the newsletter (printing and mailing), website, refreshments for the meetings, we also buy dinner for a guest speaker as a 'thank you.' Sometimes we buy stuff for door prizes for a drawing. This raises more money for club expenses (like an upgrade card for our club computer). Stuff like that.
Our By-Laws require two signatures on a check to spend club money, the Treasurer plus either the President or Vice-President. Also they bylaws require that the expense be approved by our Board or Directors (club officers and AT Large members from the club general membership) BEFORE its spent and the Secretary holds the check book. Since the Secretary cannot write the check, and the Treasurer plus either the President or Vice-President must sign the check, this discourages unauthorized shrinkage of the treasury.
3 - Apple's upcoming national and regional events calendar and the MUG Center are great resources for what other clubs are doing. Nothing succeeds like success. Also, You'll probably do a great presentation, yourself, if its something you've learned how to do or are interested in.
4 - As for virtual presentations - ask 'em. I'm sure you read Mac|Life, Macworld, or MacHome magazines. Contact people you read about. They may surprise you and say "Yes."
Hope this helps.

Hello my fellow MUGers,
After some preliminary work, the Acadiana Area Apple User Group (tentatively named) will have its first meeting in less than two weeks ...
I think I'll stop asking for now. Thanks in advance for all who will respond.
