Over the years I have been affiliated with UG's that met in public
schools, churches, colleges, library and Compusa. (During 1 period I was
hitting 6-8 user groups a month in SF bay area). After I retired I moved
back to Oklahoma and joined the local group that folded not much later.
I then joined a Mac sig under a PC ug. This group at one time was a
large group with close to 12 sigs. They rented a group of offices in a
office building. The first location started complaining about the
parking taken up by members. So they had to move. The new location had a
large meeting room, and 2 smaller meeting rooms. One smaller room was
set up as pc computer lab for classes. They are also affiliated w/ SNUG
(senior network user group?), which meets in day time hours. The Mac sig
was never big, lucky to have 10 at a meeting. After a year of 1 or 2
attendees I put the mac sig on hiatus.
For the general Meetings they were using a auditorium in the Kilpatrick
Center (museum) and then moved to the local Vo-tech auditorium. Now they
have lost so many members they are meeting in the office building.
The office building had a buzzer entry after hours (8 pm). Note: these
rooms were on the third floor. So they might be rented at a lower rate
as undesirable, even though an elevator was present. Plenty of parking.
Large room we put in a large screen w/ rear projection projector. Also
offices for server, President, membership/newsletter chairpersons and
small store room. It wasn't cheap, rumor at one time was that rent was
around 3000.00 a month.
As for Compusa, If you offer classes, don't ask to use their meeting
rooms, it is/was a conflict with their training sales.
Apple stores? After the treatment I got hell would freeze over before I
go in there again.
