18 Apple: what were they thinking ???
I need your help. So if you're reading this, and have any ideas
-- please contact me!
I've been working on donating a set of Kiosks to our local Children's
Museum. The goal is to utilize an iMac running iChat in these kiosks
at remote locations in the Museum, so the kids can see other areas
of the museum and even talk back and forth within the museum. It's
taken quite a while to get the kiosks built, and the Museum networked
-- which is still not done. (We're using ethernet rather than
wireless, because the Macs will network in with the rest of
the museum's security system!)
We were waiting until the very end to purchase the iMacs --
but now discover that have been the big mistake!
Evidently, Apple's R-and-D department didn't get up early enough to
attend the "Computer User Basics" class -- missing the part about
never using a high-gloss monitor -- always use non-glare. So they
mistakenly utilized a high-polish monitor for the new iMacs,
effectively making them useless for any daylight situation.
What were they thinking???
Kids standing at the kiosk see their reflections in the glass,
brighter than the iChat image. Sheesh!
So, if you know about any good method of making the iMacs non-glare,
or glare-proof without degrading brightness, I'd sure like to know.
Otherwise I have the first two kiosk prototypess that are totally
useless. Also, if you have experience with kiosk software for
Macs, or linking up Macs for iChat -- we'd love to get your
help on this project.
Thanks for reading
Fred
