But if you hold down the Option Key on startup, and get a selector, and OS9 comes up as a bootable disk, I can see no reason why it shouldn't boot, if the Mac is capable of booting from 9. Even then, booting under 10.4 should allow a classic session when needed. I haven't needed anything on 9 for well over a year, so I didn't have any compunction about getting Leopard, at least not on that account.
