One feature of the 'pod was that you could play stored media on somebody else's Macintosh. Unfortunately, you couldn't save the music on their Mac without "authorizing" it. That's good, I guess, because it stopped unethical, unscrupulous and illegal pirating of purchased Fair-Play music.
But what if some unknowing relative gives you a less expensive MP3 player (Rio is more that a city in Brazil, ya know) for, say, your birthday and you're not into re-gifting or eBay? For some people the choice was to use software, like Audio Hijack, to 'translate' purchased iTunes Music Store songs from AAC (MP4) to MP3. Then load it to the MP3 player. Bought and paid for, sure, but played on the Rio, not an iPod.
Does the MW announcement of DRM-free iTunes Store mean that there will be an update to iTunes to remove this hobble so that old Fair-Play iTunes music can now be converted from one audio format to the other without Audio Hijack?
Withou this hobble, will people be able to copy old DRM music from an iPod to an unauthorized computer?
Inquiring minds in Florida want to know.
