Perhaps you would consider sharing a copy of your exported (empty)
database setup for other leaders with FMP.
The beauty of having a common database system is the availability to
share upgrades in scripts and letter formats between groups. You get
the opportunity to mentor other leaders and share your knowledge. Why
reinvent the wheel?
Lots of groups get an NFR copy of FMP but have no idea what to do with
it.
Unless you have creative issues with sharing your database setup (and
that's completely understandable), think about the possibilities of it
being used and tweaked by other users that agree to share their
updates. Most groups would probably not use all the features you have
developed, but could be a great starting point for organization.
Just a thought.
What are other groups doing to keep track of their membership? Does
anyone out there have a solution that they really like and are
willing to share with us? I like AppleWorks, but I want to see if
there might be a more modern and less labor intensive way to do all
this work.
The Hawaii Macintosh & Apple Users' Society (hmaus.org) uses
FileMaker Pro to manage the membership database. Old version 6.0,
unlimited. CDML allows us to make the records available to the
members and leaders.
Via secure web access membership chairman has full rights to update
records. A member has the ability to update his/her own record (but
not the member expiration date). Other leaders have lookup ability
and some having update ability.
