It's a lot simpler than that. You just need to make a bootable .dmg from
the source DVD, then use the 'Restore' option on the Disk Utility entry for
the flash drive. Use the .dmg as source and flash drive as destination,
remembering to tick the 'erase drive' box.
I made myself an emergency Leopard drive on an 8GB flash drive using this
method, and it works a treat.
