Dennis is absolutely right about that. Anyone in the world can send a message posing as anyone else in the world. I could send you a 100% believable message that had you believing President Obama himself was emailing you.
Someone out in the world is simply sending out spam as you. There's nothing you can do about it, but thankfully it usually only lasts for a short window of time.
It is still wise to change your password when this happens, however.
