AUGD: New List
AUGD: New List

I have very mixed emotions about this issue.
I have found it quite frustrating that the AUGD list has a very restrictive limit on the amount of data that can be shared. Many of the times I want to share information that I think valuable to other Ambassadors / MUG organizations my submission is rejected. I have two choices: forget about it; or post the information on some web site and provide a link. The latter digs at my evaluation of the worth of AUGD postings,
On a second dimension, I've found few situations in the messages where the members are posing questions about running a MUG and receive answers.
I've tried to share what Naples MUG does to grow (like our courses, newspaper articles, etc) but there is not much like that in the AUGD messages and the AUGD limits prohibits the transfer of the information.
AUGD should NOT be a forum for trouble shooting computer issues. There are many other sites with more qualified participants to answer questions.
AUGD (or its successor) should limit itself to items that help the MUG operate.
For example, I'd love a good discussion of how to move to Internet based membership management. We have about 500 members and we are a 'snow bird' location. Each year we add about 90 members and lose about 70 members (death or not returning). This is a huge administrative issue for the few volunteers. We also teach courses "in season" for the members (and gain revenue); dealing with the process is a PITA that cries for computer implementation. We don't have an IT structure and state-wide there seem to be no companies that could address our needs.
Don't mention Network Solutions. I spent 2 months with them and paid big $$ to find out they couldn't approach the problem.
And the BIG FileMaker consultant firm (in Tampa area) didn't return telephone calls once the need was defined. And we were / are willing to pay.
