01 Idiots in charge
The world is a crazy place. On one hand the cybercrime world is
running amok because the regulators haven't evolved to understand
what's going on. On the other hand, all the industry players are
ignoring the threats, but over-zeallously "partol" their bandwidth.
So UGNN gets trapped in the crossfire about twice a year. It's almost
enough to make us feel like throwing in the towell.
It happened again today. An email we sent to subscribers tripped AOL's
"spam" rules. Nobody read the email. Nobody looked into the alert.
Nobody was smart enough to check it out. They automatically complained
to our ISP.
Our ISP, 'FatCow' I'm sure employs technical staffers with more than a
middle school education. But at times, you couldn't proove it. They
locked up our account based on a baseless AOL complaint without
reading what AOL had sent them. When I confronted them, they provided
me with headers from the so-called "offending" email. Right there in
the headers was the "No UCE" ranking, whitelisting our domain
UGNN.com. Did FatCow admin people read that? We don't know. Were they
intelligent enough to understand what they were reading? We don't
know. All we know is they took us off line, and it took me hours to
get the site reinstated.
What's the irony? They still think they did the right thing. Instead
of investigating and validating they were doing the right thing, they
acted out of expediency. So, as we've said many, many times over the
past twenty years of publishing the UGNN, cybercriminals will
eventually ruin it for everyone else. We're in danger of that
prediction coming true.

02 iMathGenius Serials for iOS Released
iMathGenius, a math education app for people of all ages, has
gained more and more popularity since its first release of last year.
Many people who downloaded and played with this app gives it a
thumbs-up. Even more gave many good suggestions which allowed us to
have improved the app since then. There are also institutional
downloads such as downloads from school's iPad education program.
We've seen download traffic increased from all around the world,
especially from US and China.

03 Safenetting : Spam, Phishing, Trojans, Taxes, Training, and more
SOPA and PIPA never really resolved or left the scene, and we're
now seeing vague tie-ins between those issues and the threats of
cybercrime, malware and phishing. Will the criminals ever stop? No.
Will we ever be safe? No. Should we ignore the warning signals? No. .
Should you pass these links and lessons along to your members, your
readership, friends and contacts? YES! We're all in this together.
This week's Safenetting evils are :

* Enhancing International Cybersecurity: Will The UN Reach A Deal? -- Analysis
