I can only speak for myself, but in terms of prepress, absolutely.
There are a bunch of very good image manipulation actions out there
that do just what you want: http://www.automatorworld.com/category/
workflows-actions/images/. InDesign actions are a bit rare right now,
but some are here: http://www.automatedworkflows.com/automator/
