Well, writing an AppleScript sent me by Jason and embedding it in the workflow still didn't work. Unfortunately, Automator continues to return an "Apple Even Time Out" error. So I went back to workflow and individualized each Send Unix command (rather than grouping them into one, big command) made to ARD. That *almost* did the trick - if, for example, softwareupdate -i -a takes over a minute, the Automator app will crap out. On the other hand, I can launch the Automator app again and again until the latency of any particular command is mitigated by its having run previously (e.g., the second time around softwareupdate won't need to update, or permission repairs have been done before and so won't take as long). So it looks like a "fix". Still - wouldn't it be nice to be able to tell Automator - "Hey, wait X seconds and be patient."? I noticed one tiny little thread about this written up 2 years ago. It appears we still have a problem. Thanks to Jason for his help. -David
