What I am specifically looking for is a simple Automator or other script that, when clicked, would automatically action the "Speak" menu to read selected text wherever located on my desktop. I have a 24" iMac with a 24" HP monitor attached. My eyesight does not permit normal exploration or investigation of the web nor Ben Walkie's book on Automator. Does anyone know where I can purchase such a Workflow? TIA

If you turn on Voice Over, a good spoken tutorial pops up that tells you how to use it. On my MacBook Pro, the key combination to turn on Voice Over is Command-Function-F5, but it might be slightly different on your computer.

You can access these options by going into System Preferences (the dock icon that looks like a gear) and selecting the Universal Access icon (upper right). The "Seeing" tab lets you turn on Voice Over, screen zoom, and contrast enhancement.
