Roger,
Let me add one thing to what I just wrote: the text data that you can export
from the Lab TIFF file will be accurate.
On the other hand, if you export the extracted Spot Color data to a new TIFF
file (1 pixel per color patch), the colors will be all wrong -- which goes
back to the old problem of ColorLab's inability to generate accurate Lab
image files.
And very likely GretagMacbeth will not bother to fix that large bug, given
that ColorLab is unsupported freeware.
