I visited Gretag HQ recently and saw a version of PMP that could
acquire from the DTP70 and the IO. This version, I was told, would
also embody some changes to the gamut mappings. I was told this on the
record.
I was told this version would go up on the web site soon, as a minor
upgrade, it should already have happened - but I just checked and
don't see anything - of course we've hit thanksgiving; or maybe I'm
looking in the wrong place.
I think it's a wonderful idea that the two 800 pound gorillas of color
management play nice with each other's instruments - after all the
cold war is over. I am sure Xrite will find DTP70 owners very thankful
if they extend Colorport to write all the necessary data for PMP with
the precision users request, and also to drive the IO. The same for
Monaco Profiler. I'm sure some users will want to use IO to capture
data and then make the profiles with Monaco Profiler. This not to
say anything bad about the wonderful DTP70, but in some cases (very
thick media) the IO is the obvious measurement hardware to employ.
Of course I don't know whether the new PMP will or won't drive the
DTP70 in spectral mode. If somebody would tell me what should go into
the supplementary columns, then I could write a quick shell or C or
Applescript program that would fo the conversion on Macs, no big
effort involved here. Unfortunately I don't know Excel, it was not a
requirement for my Ph.D.
Lastly, if you look at my blog, you'll see that I managed to make
i1Match run profiles from data acquired by the DTP70 - I don't know
who would really need to do this, but it was fun. Hey guys,
interoperability is a wonderful thing !
