profiles?
Yep, I will - happily.
For many, many applications device links is the only way for
repurposing (or standardization) of CMYK files.
Several of my press clients have several presses, run several
different stocks, and as such should publicise 20-30 different
profiles to have a ballpark figure of press/paper combo - and make
nsure their clients use the latest updated profiles. Except this
isn't very practical whereas defining a standard (ISO/SWOP/GRAcol -
or the best of their presses) for each class of paper they use, and
have customers supply files in this/these spaces, makes a lot of
sense. And reseparate the incoming files using device links, with -
you guessed it Roger - Alwan CMYK optimizer /(device links) which, in
general, preserves Primaries and secondaries. And they don't really
need to resaparate anything until they plate the files, at which
point the machine is fixed anyway. And at the same time they make
sure they don't get neither LAb, RGB files or over inking on press.
Another workflow is publishers dealing with advertizing in PDF form -
from all over the world. Many of the ad's have inklimits above 360 -
for web presses, and no profiles or output intents. Pretty hard to
maintain a stable workflow when every fourth page in the magazine
might throw everything off. Again CMYK optimizer can deal with that
in a great way: If there are profiles (or output intents) the files
get's converted with primary/secondary preservation, if not ink limit
is "just" limited to 300%.
No way either of these cases would work with standard ICC...
