With a good editor (like having Photoshop as the engine) it's not really
more difficult than editing an image. It just takes time and a fair about of
output. I also find it's not necessary WYSIWYG. That is, you apply an edit
visually and you expect that on output, but it's often not quite the case.
That's where a good edit list is useful. I use Adjustment layers in
Photoshop for all the edits when I use the Kodak profile editor. If a curve
results in output that's a bit too much, double click on the layer, do a
slight tweak and try again.
