I've recently had some issues with the GMB IO that I thought I might share. While the IO seems like a perfect device for signage and grand format printing (where the use of thicker materials is common) the IO cannot measure the course printing screens that these printers often have. Even though an EyeOne can measure these printer's patches in it's strip reading mode, it cannot when used with the IO. The threshold seems to be right around 8 color printing at 600 dpi.
When I contacted GMB they confirmed this. "The IO generally will not read course line screens - its just the nature of the device." They gave me a beta application that allows the IO to operate in a "patch by patch" mode like the Spectrolino but then we are back to Spectrolino speeds. It looks like signage and grand format users that need a quick device that will handle thick materials should stick with an EyeOne or Pulse.
