Last time I looked into it, the ICC tags did cover the necessary
information, if all relevant tags were present (ie. the
luminanceTag, MeasurementTag and ViewingConditionsTag).
For any random profile though, there is no guarantee that
any or all the information necessary is actually present, and
therefore to actually rely on this is difficult, and making
guesses based on the technology signature seems a necessity.
In the end it seemed all too hard, and the user may wish to
override what's implied by the profile in any case.
I may re-visit this at some stage.
