Xrite are extremely nice people but they have these strange beliefs about IP.
In the end to be able to supply my clients with camera profiles I
negotiated a more suitable agreement with the author of another
profiling package, and created my own custom camera profile editing
chain to replace Profile Editor.
Having a royalty-free toolkit and my own tools makes me feel much more
comfortable, and has visibly made people who deal with me much more
comfortable.

So, does that also mean, if you create your own custom targets using
MeasureTool, that GretagMacbeth/XRite owns those too because they were
generated using their product?
That would be very silly indeed, because, for example, the manufacturers of
a lathe could then argue that all machine parts built with it by the lathe's
purchaser belong to the lathe's manufacturer. It would be a ridiculous
argument.
