- Thread-topic: Updated profiling for print shop
I've been away from this list for a few years after e-mail address change,
time constraints etc. but feel the need to get back in touch and update my
knowledge.
My job is production manager of a small print shop with 2 Heidelberg
presses, one a four color and a single color on which we also do color work.
We use the ECRM image setter which uses the Harlequin RIP and HP Design Jet
30 for proofing.
In our current work flow we order profiles for our proofing with the HP
Design Jet 30 and use "canned" Fogra profiles (European standard CMYK,
available gloss, matt and offset) for outputting film and the normal quality
control procedures in film, plate making and density control of printing.
Results have been fairly good but not what I want as we have to "fudge" on
densities most of the time to come close to the proof, so I want to bring
profiling in house and go with complete implementation of profiling
including individual press and paper profiling.
The X-rite DTP-41 and Monaco Gold were my considerations for this purpose
but as I started checking into this I found out that this is dated and
discontinued.
For those of you out there in similar situations, what is your up to date
recommendation as to what spectrophotometer and software package is best
suited to this?
Thanks,
Joe
