Roger,
All versions of i1Profiler after 1.2.0 throw this error with M0 files. Profiles can be built from M2 data but M1 only works if UV-included measurements are present as well; e.g. with measurement data from an iSis. I have not fed it M1 CGATS data, so this could be what is happening as well.
Yes, i1Profiler should be capable of figuring out the whitepoint. Starting with version 1.3.1 it lost the ability for CGATS measurements of non-M2 data.
The "Calibration" message appears when there is no DEVCALSTD field in the CGATS header. You'll need to determine which standard your measurements adhere to. XRGA for newer (post 2010?) X-Rite instruments, GMDI for legacy GMB instruments, XRDI for legacy X-Rite, NIST for instruments calibrated to NIST standards, "Legacy standard" for "who the hell knows. Let's guess."
