I'm probably missing something obvious, but does anyone know how to
get
Xcode's debugger to play nicely with Digital Performer 5.11? I'm
trying to
figure out why my latest AU's view won't display properly in DP
(and only in
DP) and I can't seem to get Xcode 2.2.1 to either launch DP as the
debugging
executable, or attach to DP's process.
The DP executable ships to customers stripped. (You DO remember to
strip all your executables before shipping them, don't you? :-)) So
there's no symbol table for a debugger to get hold of.
You'll have to run DP using a terminal window and gdb. Remember you
want to debug the executable in the app's Contents/MacOSX directory,
not the app itself! Use dbg() at a strategic point in your AU's
initialisation to make gdb stop. (I think there's a gdb environment
variable you have to set to make things work nicely with dbg() -
check the manual pages) Once it's stopped there, you'll be able to
set breakpoints in your code and continue using the gdb command line
as normal.
