I believe that 'make' should generally work. There may be order
dependencies between projects or subprojects; and not all headers may
be installed by default. This is a murky area, especially if you try
to build just one subproject.
A bit of patience and some detective work is called for. Questions to
the list often elicits useful answers, but the latter are dependent on
who well the former are posed.
Can they be modified to suit my needs?
That, of course, depends on your needs.
