A huge round of applause to several of the Apple Federal
Representatives who have nicely resolved the problem with Apple Macs on
the Army NIPERNET. A merry yuletide for Army users.
I have been notified that Army Network Command (NETCOM) has prepared,
and will issue a message to the Regional CIOs stating that while Apple
Mac OSX can not -- yet -- be "joined" to the AD, they can remain
connected to the NIPERNET.
In addition, the message does allow for the use of Virtual PC with MS
XP(tm) to allow access to the AD and shared resources from the Mac.
I also am apprised that Apple OS 10.4, when released, would likely be
allowed to "join" an AD; and that the possibility exists for Macs to
eventually be classified as a "common alternative" client workstation
(right now it is a mission required alternative). Hope for a timely,
maybe even an early, release for 10.4.
