Anyone out there looking at WBEM? I just found out about it today
reading the ARD manual. Very promising.
From the Apple Remote Desktop manual:
ARD clients can respond to WBEM (Web-Based Enterprise Management) tools
that request data from client computers. WBEM is an emerging network
protocol standard for desktop computer management. WBEM relies on HTTP
and XML to offer a webbased approach for exchanging CIM (Common
Information Model) data. For further information about WBEM, see
http://www.dmtf.org. ARD uses OpenWBEM as a basis for its WBEM
implementation. To allow WBEM access:
1 Select a computer list.
2 Select one or more computers in the Remote Desktop window.
3 Choose Manage > Change Client Settings. The ARD client assistant
appears.
4 Click Continue until you reach the System Data section of the
assistant.
5 Select Set OpenWBEM Access.
6 Click Allowed. Click disallowed to stop WBEM access on the client
computers.
7 Click Continue to change the clients’ settings. The client assistant
contacts all of the selected computers and changes their settings.
